About the role

Teaches courses in accordance with the schedule of classes and follows the approved course descriptions and syllabi established by the department faculty and administered by the Director of Nursing.

Responsibilities

  • Provides direct supervision of students in a clinical setting
  • Establishes and maintains a good relationship with those in the nursing profession, keeping abreast of current trends in the field to assure that methods and techniques are relevant
  • Participates with faculty in development of course objectives, evaluation of total curriculum, and revision of policy and procedures manual
  • Affords assistance in the recruitment of students for the program
  • Maintains student records of attendance, grades, and progress
  • Affords assistance with the registration and pre-registration of students in the program
  • Follows an approved course of study and lesson plans
  • Prepares classroom, skills laboratory, and clinical instruction
  • Assists in the development of the curriculum, preparation of course syllabi, and selection of textbooks
  • Assumes responsibility for students in clinical setting, care plans, concept maps, needed skills for objectives, and evaluation
  • Communicates with program director and other instructors regarding student concerns and issues and student progress as appropriate
  • Serves on department and campus committees and accepts committee assignments
  • Recommends library and instructional materials, equipment, and program supplies
  • Observes scheduled class periods as approved by the director
  • Affords assistance in the organizational and advisory committee meetings
  • Observes the rules of good housekeeping and equipment maintenance in the work area
  • Observes, supports, and enforces the regulations, policies, and programs of the college
  • Informs the director in writing of any problem that might be detrimental to the institution
  • Works a minimum of 35 hours each week on campus during the fall and spring semesters and submits to department chairperson a monthly work record.
  • (Less than full-time contractual faculty work a proportional workweek)
  • Sets aside sufficient time for student conferences, guidance, and tutorial assistance (minimum of 6 hours per week required)
  • Participates in staff development activities, professional associations, presentations, consulting, evaluations, and similar activities which enhance the individual and the educational profession
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Practical Nursing/Lead Instructor

Requirements

  • A minimum of a Bachelor's of Science in Nursing; Masters in nursing preferred
  • Have three (3) years clinical experience working as an registered nurse; or have two (2) years experience as faculty in a nursing program/allied health program
  • Satisfy clinical agency requirements, i.e. Background checks, immunizations, CPR, etc.

  • Must have an unencumbered license as an RN in Mississippi
