Power Transformer Field Service Technician

Responsibilities

  • Perform complicated operations including, but not limited to: internal inspections, load tap changer repair/replacement, dress & fill, regasketing, component replacement, and unit relocations.
  • Work on large and medium power transformers of varying types (substation, GSU, regulating, rectifying, and electric arc furnace).
  • Learn how to perform failure investigations, report findings, and recommend repairs.
  • Employ test equipment and instruments required to perform preliminary, intermediate, and final tests.
  • Work on-site and in-shop by yourself with little to no direction.
  • Direct and train others as needed.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED and minimum of three years of experience in power transformer field service (oil processing, regasketing, component replacement, testing, etc.) on 230kV class equipment or higher.
  • Deep understanding of power transformer construction and maintenance.
  • Knowledge of how to operate and interpret the readings from test equipment to get readings for insulation resistance, winding resistance, turns ratio, power factor (Doble M4100).
  • Valid Driver’s License.
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings/diagrams and specifications – (electrical, mechanical).
  • Experience with health and safety programs including lock out tag out.
  • Good with people and ability to communicate with customer and supplier personnel.
  • Self-starter able to work with minimal direction or supervision.

Qualifications

  • Passport and work authorization that would permit them to work for IPS in the U.S.
  • Experience with special transformers is preferred.
  • Specific safety, environmental, health training preferred: OSHA 10 or 30MSHA 30 CFR Part 48 A or Part B NFPA 70E or equivalent Lock Out Tag Out and control of hazardous energy Confined space entry and Non-entry confined space rescue Spill prevention and control
