About the Role

Kimley-Horn's Orlando, FL office is seeking a Power Systems Engineer in Training with 5+ years of experience to join their Power Delivery team. This in-office position focuses on serving clients within the power delivery and energy sectors, acting as a technical expert in the analysis of power systems transient and steady state.

Responsibilities

  • Support the power electrical team to analyze systems, create software models, and write reports for various projects (e.g., commercial, industrial, and generation projects).
  • Perform studies based on candidate experience, including:
    • Load Flow / Reactive Power Analysis
    • Arc Flash, Short Circuit, and Coordination studies using ETAP or any steady-state power system tool
    • Transient studies using PSS/E and PSCAD
    • Harmonic studies using ETAP, PSCAD, or transient software
  • Partner with the electrical team to create calculations and drawings for various project types.
  • Continually gain knowledge in the power and energy industry.
  • Assist with project design, specifications, and plans support.
  • Review work with quality in mind to confirm compliance with Kimley-Horn quality standards.

Requirements

  • 5+ years’ experience as an Electrical Engineer for an engineering firm or EPC.
  • Experience with PSCAD, PSS/E, ETAP, WinIGS, or CDEGS preferred.
  • Understanding or willingness to learn the NEC 2020 and IEEE standards, and keep up with emerging technologies.
  • General understanding of engineering and energy systems.
  • Knowledge of Load Flow, Coordination, Short Circuit, and Arc Flash studies basic theory and methodology.
  • Proficiency using Computer-Aided Design and Drafting (AutoCAD).
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to work and manage several project teams concurrently.
  • Ability to work independently or in a team environment effectively.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, challenging environment.
  • PE certification or path to move towards certification is preferred.
