Power Systems Studies Engineer

About the role

Kimley-Horn is seeking a Power Systems Engineer with 4+ years of experience to join our Power Delivery team in our Frisco, Texas office. This is an in-office position focused on serving clients within the power delivery and energy sectors.

Responsibilities

• Support the power electrical team to analyze systems, create software models, and write reports for various projects (e.g., commercial, industrial, and generation projects).
• Perform studies based on candidate experience, including:
  • Load Flow / Reactive Power Analysis
  • Arc Flash, Short Circuit, and Coordination studies using ETAP or other steady-state power system tools
  • Transient studies using PSS/E and PSCAD
  • Harmonic studies using ETAP, PSCAD, or transient software
• Partner with the electrical team to create calculations and drawings for various project types.
• Continually gain knowledge in the power and energy industry.
• Assist with project design, specifications, and plans support.
• Review work with quality in mind to confirm compliance with Kimley-Horn quality standards.

Requirements

• 4+ years’ experience as an Electrical Engineer for an engineering firm doing power studies.
• Master's degree in Electrical Engineering.
• ETAP experience required.
• Knowledge of Load Flow, Coordination, Short Circuit, and Arc Flash studies basic theory and methodology (and ability to create models).
• Proficiency using Computer-Aided Design and Drafting (AutoCAD).
• Ability to work independently or in a team environment effectively.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, challenging environment.
