About the role
The Power System Engineer position supports the reliability, safety, and modernization of Avangrid's electric transmission and distribution networks. Avangrid seeks engineers with expertise in distribution planning, transmission planning, interconnection, power system modeling, project management, asset management, grid operations support, protection & control, design & engineering, and grid infrastructure.
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain power system models to support planning and operations
- Conduct system studies to identify and mitigate risks
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement new technologies and improve grid efficiency
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry standards
- Manage projects from conception through completion, ensuring quality and adherence to budget and timeline
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior staff
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance operational efficiency and reliability
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering
- Minimum 2 years of relevant industry experience for Associate Engineer, 5+ years for Senior Engineer, 7+ years for Lead Engineer, and 10+ years for Principal Engineer
- Advanced degrees or certifications may be considered for higher-level positions
Qualifications
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Experience with power systems analysis tools and software
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Knowledge of NERC Reliability Standards and CIP
