About the role
The Power Plant Utility Operator works with the Utilities Operating team to achieve goals related to safety, environmental compliance, asset strategy, housekeeping, and reliability. This position requires the operator to use mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills to support reliable operations for the Savannah River Mill.
Responsibilities
- Provide operational monitoring and troubleshooting of solid fuel fired high pressure boilers
- Operate and monitor gas/steam turbine generators, compressed air, cooling towers, and heat exchangers systems
- Sample and quality test steam and water systems
- Perform lubrication, troubleshooting, and basic maintenance of powerhouse equipment
- Interface with computers to monitor and log operational equipment data
- Make quick decisions to stabilize the plant during upset conditions
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED
- 6 or more months of experience in a manufacturing, industrial, agricultural, or military environment
- Completion of post-high school education in a manufacturing/industrial-centered program
- Experience using a computer, tablet, or smart device
- Experience troubleshooting and repairing mechanical and/or electrical equipment
- Experience operating heavy equipment, rotating machinery, chemical handling, and lubrication
- Experience using hand and power tools such as wrenches, hammers, and drills
- Experience using Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
- Experience working in a powerplant environment
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED

Pay
The starting pay is $24 per hour with competitive benefits and consistent, performance-based pay raises.
Schedule
The rotating 12-hour shift includes days, nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime hours.
