Power Plant Operator/Test & Conditioning Technician

About the role

We are looking for a Test and Conditioning Technician to join our team in Torrington. In this position, you will play a key role in the final stages of our manufacturing process, ensuring our fuel cells perform according to specifications and are ready for shipment. This multifaceted role is both rewarding and challenging, involving the installation of fuel cell modules, operation and maintenance of balance-of-plant equipment, and monitoring heat-up and cool-down processes.

Responsibilities

• Perform all required checks and line-ups prior to starting the heat-up process.
• Set up, calibrate, test, and troubleshoot circuits, components, instruments, and mechanical assemblies.
• Determine and may develop test specifications, methods, and procedures from blueprints, drawings, and diagrams.
• Test and troubleshoot assemblies, including final systems.
• Complete rework on assemblies and/or systems as needed due to testing.
• Prepare technical reports summarizing findings and recommending solutions to technical problems.
• Assist in the selection and set-up of specialized test equipment.
• Operate mobile equipment, including forklifts and a 60-ton Overhead Bridge Crane, as well as other mechanical-assisted lifting devices.
• Maintain the physical outdoor work site.
• Order parts and materials used in operations.
• Input data into ERP and Work Management software.
• Assist in writing procedures and other technical documents.
• Perform predictive and emergent maintenance activities.
• Assist in other duties as required.

Requirements

• Education: High School Diploma or GED required; Associate’s Degree preferred.
• Experience: Minimum of 1 year in power plant operations/maintenance or equivalent industry experience troubleshooting instrument, electrical, or mechanical issues. Experience in rigging, mobile equipment, and insulation is a plus.

Physical Requirements / Working Conditions

• Willingness to work 12-hour shifts, rotating between days and nights, including weekends and holidays.
• Ability to be on call for 24/7 support on a rotating basis when a Conditioning unit is operational.
• Some travel between the Torrington and Danbury facilities may be required.
• Works in both climate-controlled and uncontrolled environments; must be willing to work outside in all weather conditions.
• Frequently required to lift, push, pull, and place up to 50 lbs., with or without assistance.
• Ability and willingness to wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), such as safety glasses, safety shoes, hard hats, respirators, and other PPE as designated.
• Routine tasks require full range of motion with both hands/arms, including circular, up-and-down, back-and-forth, side-to-side, and overhead motions.
• Ability to climb ladders and work at heights.

Pay

The pay for this position ranges from $32 per hour.
