Qualifications

  • Ability to do the work of a(n) Power Plant Mechanical Planner (TC-J) ~ without more than normal supervision.
  • Ability to create detailed job plans, safety plans, and purchase requests for mechanical equipment materials and/or services.
  • Ability to perform tasks developing requirements for needed work as well as estimate cost of materials, trades required to accomplish the work, and estimated labor hours; ability to use a Computerized Maintenance Management Program.
  • Ability to work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed.

Requirements

  • Conditions of employment: Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Lifts and carries equipment and supplies frequently up to, and occasionally over, 45 pounds.
  • Must have physical endurance to work for prolonged periods in cramped, poorly accessible sites when investigating or installing/modifying equipment.
  • Work requires prolonged standing, walking, climbing, bending, stooping, twisting, pulling, pushing, and kneeling.
  • A high degree of concentrated mental and visual attention is necessary to determine cause of trouble, plan and carry out corrective action, interpret complex drawings; and coordinate work efforts.
  • Requires acute manual dexterity and ability to distinguish colors.

Physical Efforts

  • Work requires moderate physical effort; lifts and carries equipment and supplies frequently up to, and occasionally over, 45 pounds.
  • May be exposed to noise, heights, oils, greases, confined areas, dust, dirt, water, heat, and cold, and inclement weather.
  • Must wear all appropriate safety equipment and protective clothing, and successfully complete and maintain all occupational health requirements.

  • Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration.
  • You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship.
  • This position requires a 1 year probationary period during which the agency evaluates your fitness and whether your continued employment advances the public interest.
  • Continued employment requires written certification that it advances the public interest.
  • Enhanced Leave Accrual, Student Loan Repayment, and/or Recruitment/Relocation incentive MAY be authorized if determined to be in the best interest of the government.
