Power Plant Mechanic
About the role
The Power Plant Mechanic reports to the Power Plant Maintenance Supervisor and performs specialized maintenance duties involving welding, high pressure/high temperature steam, and water lines. Special emphasis is placed on alignment, millwright, machining, plumbing, tubing, chemical or other special material applications.
Responsibilities
- Performs various Power Plant maintenance and preventative maintenance duties, including boilers, air pollution control equipment, pumps, coal equipment, liquid fuel systems, ash removal equipment, pneumatic equipment, auxiliary and support systems, steam turbine, and generator.
- Ensures performance of duties in a timely manner and in compliance with federal and state law, university policies and procedures, and any associated regulations and guidelines.
- Overtime may be necessary due to emergencies and breakdowns.
Requirements
- Journeyman level mechanic experience.
- ASOPE Facility 3rd class license or higher, or ability to obtain within one year of employment.
- Valid Drivers' License.
- Ability to use hand tools, power tools, torches, and welders.
- Ability to use all types of micrometers, dial indicators, and laser alignment.
- Ability to interpret instructions and complete assignments independently or as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous Power Plant experience.
- Previous welding experience or certification.
- Previous pipe fitting experience.
- Previous millwright trade experience.
- ASOPE Facility 2nd class license or higher.
Pay
$58,000 - $62,000 annually

This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship. Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States without the need for current or future sponsorship. This position has been designated by the university as essential to university operations. As emergency personnel, you will be required to report to work during emergency situations and authorized closings. The successful candidate will be required to have a criminal conviction check.
