About the role

Dominion Energy South Carolina (DESC) seeks an Apprentice Combustion Turbine Operator/Repairman at Saluda Hydroelectric Generating Plant located at the Lake Murray Dam near Columbia, SC.

Responsibilities

• Operate heavy equipment such as a forklift or overhead crane.
• Learn plant systems required to safely operate plant equipment, including safe startup and shutdown of Hydroelectric Turbines and all supporting systems.
• Perform routine electrical, instrumentation, and mechanical maintenance.
• Troubleshoot hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems.

Requirements

• 2+ years of Hydroelectric Power Plant or industrial experience.
• Heavy background in electrical knowledge is a plus.
• Technical training in maintenance and operations is a plus.
• Frequent climbing of tall structures at extreme heights.
• Heavy lifting (minimum of 50 pounds).
• Ability to work standing for prolonged periods.
• Work outside during inclement weather if necessary.
• Work in confined spaces.
• Available to work overtime, call outs, weekends, and holidays to support outages, emergencies, and upset conditions.
• Occasional shift work to support plant operations.
• Possess a valid driver’s license.
• Ability to wear a respirator and maintain annual respirator clearance.
• Obtain a Class D Wastewater License within the first year.
• Operate a boat and obtain SC Boaters License.

Qualifications

• Completion of high school or equivalent (i.e., GED) is required.
• Required to obtain and maintain a Class D Wastewater License.
• This job requires recommended test results from the EEI Power Plant Maintenance Selection System (MASS) aptitude test, administered on site during the pre-employment process. View the practice test.

• Representation by IBEW Locals 772 and 398.

Pay

Starting Hourly Rate: $32.78
