Power Plant Operator
Location: Kilroot & Ballylumford Power Stations
About the role
Kick-start your career in power generation through a structured 2–3 year development programme! You'll receive comprehensive training while gaining practical experience operating and maintaining large-scale equipment, including gas turbines, steam turbines, generators and associated plant across two of Northern Ireland's largest power stations.
As part of the Operations team, you'll learn to safely operate, monitor and control power generation plant, supporting efficient electricity production while maintaining the highest standards of safety and environmental compliance.
Responsibilities
- Operating and monitoring power generation plant and auxiliary systems.
- Assisting with plant start-ups, shutdowns and load changes.
- Carrying out routine inspections and reporting defects.
- Supporting maintenance activities through plant isolations.
- Recording operational data and helping improve plant performance.
- Working closely with Operations and Maintenance teams.
Requirements
We're looking for dynamic individuals who are technically minded, safety-focused and keen to develop a long-term career in power generation.
- A minimum of 3 A Levels, ideally supported by a recognised engineering apprenticeship, engineering degree or equivalent qualification.
- Good technical aptitude.
- Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
