Power Engineer / Electrical Engineer
Job Summary
The Power Engineer in the Electrical Safety Engineering Division is responsible for applying advanced electrical engineering principles to ensure the safety, reliability, and performance of power systems. This role involves power system analysis, protection and coordination, quality assurance testing, and technical support.
Key Responsibilities
Apply electrical engineering principles related to protection and coordination, relay testing, and equipment protection.
Design, implement, analyze, and troubleshoot protection schemes, including overcurrent protection, distance relays, and generator/motor protection systems.
Perform power system safety analysis, including load flow and short-circuit studies (approximately 30% of time).
Develop, expand, and execute quality assurance (QA) test procedures in alignment with company standards, including identifying, documenting, and validating software issues (approximately 30% of time).
Utilize engineering tools such as MATLAB®, Simulink®, Mathcad, and power system analysis software to support analysis and testing activities (approximately 10% of time).
Interpret and work with software-based protection systems and data collection protocols.
Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to support project development and execution.
Provide technical support to customers and clients by addressing product-related inquiries and troubleshooting issues.
Prepare technical documentation, reports, and status updates.
Contribute to training and knowledge-sharing efforts within the team.
Qualifications & Skills
Strong foundation in electrical engineering concepts, particularly in power systems protection and coordination.
Familiarity with relay testing and implementation of protection schemes.
Analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to develop and validate test procedures.
Basic programming knowledge in C#, C++, and MATLAB.
Experience with mathematical and simulation tools such as MATLAB®, Simulink®, or Mathcad.
Exposure to commercial or academic power system analysis software is a plus.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
Strong organizational and time management skills.
Education
M.S. in Electrical Engineering preferred.
B.S. in Electrical Engineering accepted with strong academic performance.
Pay Range
The salary range for this position is $65,000.00 - $100,000 USD annually. Final compensation can vary within the range depending on work location, job experience, skills, and relevant educational attainment and/or training.
