About the role

The primary purpose of this position is to smooth and finish surfaces of poured concrete, such as floors, walkways, sidewalks, roads, or curbs using a variety of hand and power tools. The Concrete Pour Finisher must support the guiding beliefs and core values of Orion, centered on Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Teamwork, with Integrity as the foundation.

Responsibilities

  • Signals concrete truck driver to position vehicle to facilitate pouring concrete.
  • Moves discharge chute of truck to direct concrete into forms.
  • Spreads concrete into inaccessible sections of forms with rake or shovel.
  • Levels concrete to specified depth and workable consistency with hand-held screen and floats to bring water to surface and produce soft topping.
  • Smooths and shapes surfaces of freshly poured concrete.
  • Finishes concrete surfaces, wets, and rubs concrete with abrasive stone to finish.
  • Removes rough or defective spots from concrete surfaces and patches holes with fresh concrete or epoxy compound.
  • Molds expansion joints and edges.
  • Sprinkles colored stone chips, powdered steel, or coloring powder on concrete to produce prescribed finish.
  • Produces rough concrete surface with broom.
  • Mixes cement with hoe or concrete-mixing machine.
  • Directs subgrade work, mixing of concrete, and setting of forms.
  • Breaks up and repairs old concrete surfaces.
  • Operates all equipment and tools required for the job, including cement mixing machines, power trowels, small mechanical hoists, surveying and measuring equipment, and other instruments.
  • Maintains equipment and tools to ensure long-lasting use.
  • Responsible for personal safety and the safety of all co-workers.
  • Authorized and obligated to stop work on any task if an unsafe condition or situation is observed.
  • Complies with all applicable laws, regulations, and Company policies and procedures.
  • Reports all violations of applicable laws, regulations, or Company policies and procedures promptly.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested by immediate supervision, such as certification training, safety training, and procedure review.
  • Maintains confidentiality of all proprietary or trade secret information belonging to the Company.

Requirements

  • Minimum of three years of experience finishing concrete structures, pier foundations, steel forming systems, and pouring concrete.
  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Ability to work in constantly changing weather and site conditions.
  • Ability to lift, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and reach to perform everyday job tasks.
  • Must observe and fulfill all safety responsibilities and actively work toward maintaining a safe workplace.

Physical/Mental Requirements

  • Must be able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable workplace accommodation.
  • Must be able to wear and properly utilize appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), including hard hat, safety glasses, respirators, ear plugs, steel-toed shoes, or other equipment as required.
  • Must remain calm during emergencies and respond appropriately as directed by the Safety Representative or other management personnel.
  • Must be able to evacuate the work area in a timely manner during emergencies.

Schedule

Flexibility to work varying shifts and long hours (8-12 hours). Weekend work and extra hours occur according to production needs and at the discretion of the Supervisor.
