About the role

The primary purpose of this position is to smooth and finish surfaces of poured concrete, such as floors, walkways, sidewalks, roads, or curbs using a variety of hand and power tools. The incumbent must support the guiding beliefs and core values of Orion, which are centered on Quality, Safety and Production (each of equal weight and importance) but, most importantly, with each built upon the all-important foundation of Integrity.

Responsibilities

  • Signals concrete truck driver to position vehicle to facilitate pouring concrete.
  • Moves discharge chute of truck to direct concrete into forms.
  • Spreads concrete into inaccessible sections of forms with rake or shovel.
  • Levels concrete to specified depth and workable consistency with handheld screen and floats to bring water to surface and produce soft topping.
  • Smooths and shapes surfaces of freshly poured concrete.
  • Finishes concrete surfaces, and wets and rubs concrete with abrasive stone to finish.
  • Removes rough or defective spots from concrete surfaces and patches holes with fresh concrete or epoxy compound.
  • Molds expansion joints and edges.
  • Sprinkles colored stone chips, powdered steel, or coloring powder on concrete to produce prescribed finish.
  • Produces rough concrete surface with broom.
  • Mixes cement with hoe or concrete-mixing machine.
  • Directs subgrade work, mixing of concrete, and setting of forms.
  • Breaks up and repairs old concrete surfaces.
  • Operates all equipment and tools required to do each job which may include cement mixing machines, power trowels, small mechanical hoists, surveying and measuring equipment, and other instruments.
  • Maintains equipment and tools to ensure long lasting use.

Authorized and obligated to stop work on any task or series of tasks whenever an unsafe condition or situation is anticipated or is observed. Complies with all applicable laws, regulations and Company policies and procedures, and is subject to appropriate disciplinary action (including dismissal) for failure to do so.

Requirements

A minimum of one year of experience finishing concrete structures, pier foundations, steel forming systems, and pouring concrete is preferred. A high school diploma or GED is preferred. The incumbent also must be able to lift, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach and other similar activities as needed.

Qualifications

The Company expects and requires incumbent and each of its other employees to observe and fulfill the above and all other safety responsibilities and actively work toward maintaining a safe workplace. Failure to do so can result in disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment.
