Pou Ora Addictions Practitioner

About the role

To work as part of an integrated Kaupapa Māori Oranga Hinengaro and Addiction Service delivering methamphetamine harm reduction, alcohol and other drug assessment, intervention and treatment services that meet the needs of Wairoa whānau. To provide whānau-centred, community-based Kaupapa Māori and Addiction support services – working in partnership and using a strengths-based, trauma-informed and culturally responsive approach that ensures Whānau support and guidance to reduce methamphetamine-related harm, strengthen wellbeing, build resilience and achieve sustainable recovery outcomes.

Responsibilities

• Deliver whānau-centred alcohol and other drug (AOD) assessment, intervention and treatment services.
• Provide methamphetamine harm-reduction support, advocacy and guidance to whānau.
• Develop and regularly review individual whānau care and treatment plans.
• Maintain accurate, timely case notes, assessments and client records.
• Connect whānau with appropriate health, social, cultural and community services.
• Work collaboratively with whānau, colleagues and external agencies to provide wraparound support.
• Capture whānau feedback and outcomes to support continuous service improvement.
• Participate in team meetings, professional supervision, training and ongoing professional development.
• Promote Pou Ora Wairoa and Oranga Hinengaro services within the community.
• Maintain professional, clinical, Health & Safety and organisational standards.

Requirements

• A relevant qualification in addiction counselling, psychology, counselling or psychotherapy, or relevant AOD experience.
• DAPAANZ registration, or currently working towards registration.
• Experience or training within the alcohol and other drug (AOD) field.
• An understanding of Kaupapa Māori models, Te Reo Māori and Tikanga Māori.
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to engage and motivate whānau.
• Ability to work effectively both independently and within a multidisciplinary team.
• A professional, confidential and culturally responsive approach.
• Strong organisation and time-management skills with the ability to manage changing priorities.
• A current full driver licence.
• A motivated, reliable and solution-focused person who can build trust and positive relationships with whānau.

Desirable

• Knowledge of Kaupapa Māori models of health.
• Knowledge of Results Based Accountability (RBA).
• Understanding of the Privacy Act 2020, Health and Disability Service Standards, and other relevant legislation.
• Ability to successfully meet Police vetting requirements.
