Postdoctoral Researcher - Cell Biology, Neurobiology and Anatomy
Medical College of Wisconsin · Milwaukee, WI · 2 wk ago
AnalystFull-time
We seek a highly motivated postdoctoral research fellow to lead studies in one or more of our key research areas:
- The role of astrocytes in motor neuron pathology in spinal muscular atrophy
- Mechanisms underlying neural progenitor cell disruption following cytomegalovirus infection
The lab employs a variety of approaches, including:
- Generating and differentiating patient-derived induced pluripotent stem cells into neuronal and glial subtypes and forebrain organoids
- Live cell calcium imaging and microelectrode array
- Fluorescent microscopy
- Viral gene delivery for overexpression and knockdown studies (in vitro and in vivo)
- Cell surface proteomics and RNA sequencing
Translational projects are available, and collaboration with clinicians from major adjacent hospitals is a regular part of the role. Our team is interactive, with multiple ongoing collaborations across departments at MCW and other institutes.
Responsibilities
- Independently design, execute, and analyze complex research procedures using induced pluripotent stem cell-derived neurons, astrocytes, microglia, and forebrain organoids
- Perform calcium imaging on neurons and astrocytes
- Bring new molecular and/or physiological methods to the laboratory
- Develop creative methodologies for lab procedures, including high-content imaging, cell surface proteomics, and RNA sequencing approaches and analysis
- Teach and guide technicians, rotating graduate and medical students, and junior graduate students in cellular and molecular analyses, including experiment organization and data analysis
- Participate in lab meetings, evaluate and interpret data, develop methodologies, and assess lab procedures
- May oversee laboratory personnel, including training, development, and daily work direction
- Act as an engaged team member, contributing to lab and department outings
- Independently write first drafts of research proposals and first-author manuscripts
- Present scientific findings at local, national, and international meetings
