About the role

The Department of Political Science at the University of Gothenburg invites applications for a postdoctoral research fellow to work at the Governance and Local Development Institute (GLD).

Responsibilities

  • Assisting in research design and implementation, including the survey, interviews and other fieldwork as necessary;
  • Overseeing survey training and implementation, with fieldwork expected;
  • Analyzing data;
  • Collaborating with Professor Ellen Lust and other researchers in the program, as relevant, to disseminate findings through articles and presentations.

Requirements

The successful candidate should have a PhD in political science or a related field, with a strong background in survey and field research in Sub-Saharan Africa. Experience with mixed methods, including the use of satellite images analysed via AI, case studies, focus groups and public opinion surveys is preferred.

Qualifications

  • Strong research skills;
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills;
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team;
  • Experience with qualitative and quantitative research methods;
  • Fluency in English.

Skills

  • Expertise in survey and field research in Sub-Saharan Africa;
  • Knowledge of mixed methods, including the use of satellite images analysed via AI, case studies, focus groups and public opinion surveys;
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills;
  • Excellent writing and presentation skills.

Pay

The salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Schedule

The employment is limited (temporary) for 2 years, full-time and is currently placed at the Department of Political Science in Gothenburg. Starting date – as early as possible or as agreed.
