About the role
The postdoctoral research associate will develop tools to mobilize data in herbarium specimens for conservation action, as part of a project funded through the Bezos Earth Fund’s AI for Climate and Nature Grand Challenge.
Responsibilities
- Develop and integrate vision-language and computer vision models
- Translate AI outputs into formats aligned with Red List criteria
- Collaborate with conservation scientists to ensure the tool is accurate, interpretable, and usable for real-world conservation assessments
Requirements
- PhD in a relevant field (e.g., computer science, ecology, botany)
- Experience with natural language processing and computer vision
- Strong background in biodiversity informatics and conservation biology
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills
Qualifications
- Experience with herbarium specimen data and biodiversity informatics
- Knowledge of IUCN Red List criteria and conservation prioritization methods
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Skills
- Expertise in machine learning and deep learning
- Proficiency in Python and related libraries (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch)
- Experience with web development and database management
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills

Pay
Salary range: $80,000 - $90,000 per year
