UMKC School of Science and Engineering, Division of Biological and Biomedical Systems, invites applications for a postdoctoral scientist to join the laboratory of Dr. Stephane Dissel in sleep neurobiology research.
About the role
The successful candidate will work on an NIH-funded project characterizing newly identified sleep-promoting neurons (VNC-SP) in the Drosophila ventral nerve cord. Techniques include Drosophila genetics, behavioral assays, confocal microscopy, live-brain imaging, and neural-circuit mapping and manipulation.
Responsibilities
- Lead research to identify molecular mechanisms by which VNC-SP neurons regulate sleep
- Map presynaptic inputs and postsynaptic partners of VNC-SP neurons
- Present progress regularly, publish findings, and participate in conferences
Requirements
- PhD or equivalent in biology, neurobiology, neuroscience, genetics, or a related field
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Drosophila genetics and neurobiology
