Postdoctoral Fellow in the Dept of Environmental & Occupational Health
About the role
The postdoctoral fellow position is available in the Department of Environmental and Occupational Health, under the direction of Dr. Drew Capone. This is a USDA grant-funded position with three years of funding available, potentially renewable after the first year based on performance and funding availability.
Responsibilities
- Conduct environmental surveillance of surface water and blow flies for avian influenza in Indiana
- Collect environmental samples through field work
- Perform laboratory analysis using culture dependent and independent approaches
- Manage and analyze data
- Work on additional projects within the Capone Lab, which includes domestic and international projects
Requirements
The successful applicant must have a PhD in environmental health, environmental engineering, environmental science, microbiology, or a related scientific field by the time of appointment. They should have:
- Experience with molecular microbiology methods (nucleic acid extraction, qPCR, dPCR)
- Quantitative data analysis skills
- Fieldwork experience, including environmental sampling
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- An interest in mentoring undergraduate, master’s, and Ph.D. students
Qualifications
- Basic Qualifications: PhD in environmental health, environmental engineering, environmental science, microbiology, or a related scientific field by the time of appointment
- Additional Qualifications: Experience with metagenomic sequencing and bioinformatics, fieldwork experience, strong communication skills, and an interest in mentoring students
