Postdoctoral Associate, Multiscale Ocean Modeling
About the role
The successful applicant will work with Assistant Professor Abigail Bodner, leveraging results from a state-of-the-art large-eddy simulation based on Oceananigans.jl that resolves scales ranging from tens of kilometers down to meter scales. The project will involve analyzing the simulation output to address fundamental questions about the processes governing ocean mixed-layer dynamics and their parameterizations.
Responsibilities
- Work with Assistant Professor Abigail Bodner to analyze simulation output from a large-eddy simulation using Oceananigans.jl
- Contribute to understanding the processes governing ocean mixed-layer dynamics and their parameterizations
- Collaborate with other researchers in the fields of physical oceanography, numerical modeling, high-performance computing, and machine learning
Requirements
- PhD in geosciences, statistics, physics, engineering, or a related field at the time of the appointment
- PREFERRED: Strong background in fluid dynamics, turbulence, and/or oceanography; or experience working with numerical simulations, large data, scientific programming, and/or machine learning
