Postdoctoral Associate (Ocean Sciences)
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Operate two mass spectrometry systems: a gas chromatograph-mass spectrometer and a gas-chromatograph/elemental analyzer-isotope ratio mass spectrometer.
- Perform wet chemical preparation of environmental samples for amino acid and compound-specific isotope analysis.
- Assist in training of graduate and undergraduate students in sample preparation and data analysis.
- Synthesize and interpret oceanographic and chemical data in the context of literature surveys.
- Advance collaborative research project through meeting with collaborators, presenting research results, and contributing to manuscripts as first author and/or coauthor.
Education Requirements
- Ph.D. in Marine Biogeochemistry, Organic Geochemistry, or a related field.
Work Experience Requirements
- At least 1 year hands-on experience in organic and isotopic geochemical techniques and data handling preferred.
- Direct experience operating IRMS and/or GC-IRMS instrumentation.
- At least 3 years hands-on experience in a chemistry laboratory preferred.
- Experience with training students in laboratory techniques preferred.
- Experience in academic publishing and first-authorship preferred.
About the Role
The Oceans Sciences Department at the University of Miami Rosenstiel School of Marine, Atmospheric and Earth Science has an exciting full time position for a Postdoctoral Associate in the Laboratory for Marine Organic and Isotope Geochemistry.
The successful candidate will conduct advanced research activities for a collaborative project funded by the National Science Foundation. The project centers around isotopic transformations during bacterial degradation of particulate organic matter. The candidate will also be responsible for efforts on closely related projects.

Pay
The salary range for this position is $50,000 - $60,000 per year, commensurate with experience.
