About the role

We are seeking one or more postdoctoral appointees to join our quantum optics and quantum sensing group at the Center for Integrated Nanotechnologies (CINT) at Sandia National Laboratories (New Mexico).

Responsibilities

  • Develop and utilize quantum sensing capabilities for the study of quantum materials.
  • Discover and characterize the physical properties of emergent quantum defects in semiconductors such as diamond and silicon.
  • Work closely with a team of staff, postdocs, graduate students, and technologists who are experts in quantum information sciences, solid state single photon emitters, and nitrogen-vacancy magnetometry.

Requirements

  • PhD in related physical science fields, such as physics, optical engineering, electrical engineering, or material science.
  • Proficiency in Python, data analysis, instrumentation, and hardware development.
  • Evidence of research achievements as demonstrated in the form of technical publications and presentations.

Qualifications

  • Strong background in physics of materials.
  • Strong background in quantum sensing with quantum defects, such as the nitrogen-vacancy defect in diamond.
  • Strong background in quantum control of single quantum defects in diamond or similar semiconductors.
  • Strong background in scanning probe microscopy.
  • Background in optics and building optical systems.

Pay

The pay range for this position is $75,000 - $100,000 per year, depending on qualifications and experience.

The schedule for this position is flexible and can include compressed workweeks, part-time work, and telecommuting options.
