About the role

The laboratory of Dr. Carol Witczak in the Department of Anatomy, Cell Biology & Physiology at the Indiana University School of Medicine (IUSM) is searching for a postdoctoral appointee to join our research team. The Witczak lab has broad interests in the mechanisms regulating skeletal muscle metabolism under physiological, pathological, and pharmacological conditions, such as exercise, type 2 diabetes, and weight loss drug therapies. The Witczak laboratory uses state-of-the-art technologies, novel pharmacological/chemical reagents, and tissue-specific mutant mouse models to investigate the underlying mechanisms controlling muscle growth and metabolic flux.

Responsibilities

  • Developing and implementing novel research methods
  • Conducting in vitro and in vivo experiments
  • Planning and managing research projects
  • Interpreting data
  • Preparing presentations and peer-reviewed publications
  • Assisting with laboratory management
  • Training personnel
  • Contributing to grant applications

Requirements

Successful candidates will have recently completed PhD training, possess a strong background in type 2 diabetes, metabolism, and/or skeletal muscle physiology, have extensive experience working with mouse models, and have a strong publication record.

Qualifications

  • Minimum Education: PhD in biomedical sciences (e.g., biochemistry, physiology, metabolism)
  • Experience working with and handling mice
  • Research experience in type 2 diabetes, metabolism or skeletal muscle physiology
  • Experience characterizing mouse models
