Mailroom Clerk – Institutional Operations
Responsibilities
- Receives and delivers mail and small parcels to and from the United States Postal Facility serving the Institution.
- Censors and/or searches outgoing and incoming inmate mail and parcels.
- Prepares mailroom notices of unauthorized items for inmate money orders, checks, etc., and order-to-report forms for parcels for delivery to inmates during daily mail call.
- Inspects and prepares inmates’ outgoing mail/parcels and prepares institutional mail, including numbered insured, certified, and registered mail for delivery to the post office daily.
- Receives and distributes inmate legal mail in accordance with applicable policies and procedures.
- Assists with coordinating postage meter replenishment and postage reimbursements from inmates on a monthly basis or as required.
- Must successfully complete four (4) weeks of SCDC Basic Training upon hire.
- Must become a notary within three (3) months of accepting the position.
Requirements
- A high school diploma.
- One (1) year of work experience in postal, courier, or delivery operations (an associate degree or higher may be substituted for the required work experience).
