About the role
Schedules, directs, and manages the employment and duty activities of security shift personnel engaged in the security operations of a level two facility. Serves as the on-call official and must successfully complete eight (8) weeks of SCDC Basic Training upon hire.
Responsibilities
- Supervises, inspects, and ensures proper perimeter and internal security and control measures are in effect and enforced.
- Prepares, submits, and monitors reports required by the chain of command and policy.
- Directs and redirects security resources for optimum security and safety.
- Ensures institutional buildings and state property are properly secured.
- Trains, develops, instructs, evaluates, and counsels subordinates to ensure duty performance aligns with state laws and agency policies.
- Ensures proper control, issue, and use of weapons, keys, security devices, and agency equipment.
- Inspects all posts where shift employees are deployed.
- Interviews and counsels inmates as necessary to ensure maximum safety and security.
Requirements
- A high school diploma.
- Six (6) years of experience in correctional, security, military, or police work, including two (2) years of supervisory experience.
- Certification by the SCDC Training Academy and successful completion of the basic supervisory course within six (6) months of entry into the position.
A bachelor’s degree in a related field may substitute for the required supervisory experience. A degree in criminal justice or a related field may substitute for supervisory experience year-for-year (associate and above = 2 years).
