Post-Masters Student in Theoretical Biology and Biophysics

Theoretical Biology and Biophysics (T-6) at Los Alamos National Laboratory seeks graduate students with a degree in biology, mathematics, statistics, physics, or related fields.

About the role

We are looking for candidates to join our team in Los Alamos National Laboratory's Theoretical Division (T-Division), focusing on modeling biological systems and analyzing heterogeneous biological data.

Responsibilities

• Work on a research project with a staff scientist mentor and co-mentor in areas like modeling biological systems, analyzing data, and integrating computational tools.
• Engage in multi-disciplinary collaborations to support the laboratory's strategic basic research and national security missions.
• Contribute to the development of mathematical and computational models to address biological questions.
• Collaborate with other researchers to develop and implement algorithms for data analysis and simulation.
• Write scientific papers and reports to document research findings and contribute to the scientific community.

Requirements

• M.S. Degree from an accredited program in Biology, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Physics, or other relevant STEM disciplines completed within the past 3 years with a cumulative GPA of at least a 3.2 on a 4.0 scale.
• Good communication skills, including brainstorming and writing abilities.
• Familiarity with Python, R, or other standard scientific computing languages.
• A desire to learn continuously and adapt to various topics.
• Experience with large-scale data processing, high-performance computing, and parallel computation.
• Experience with mathematical and statistical modeling.
• Experience with SQL and database queries.
• Experience with machine learning and AI methods.

Desired Qualifications

• Experience with machine learning and AI methods.
• Experience writing scientific papers and reports.

Education/Experience

Work Location

The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM.
