Position Details

A fully funded four-year PhD position is available to develop a self-driving lab focused on designing, synthesizing, and optimizing plasmonic nanoparticles for applications in catalysis and neurotechnology. The project is supported by Grant PID2025-172468NB-I00 titled "ALGOrithm-driven Nanoparticle Engineering for Thermoplasmonic Applications."

About the role

The successful candidate will work in a cutting-edge research environment, contributing to the advancement of nanotechnology and its applications in catalysis and neurotechnology.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement algorithms for the design and optimization of plasmonic nanoparticles
  • Design and conduct experiments to synthesize and characterize plasmonic nanoparticles
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to integrate nanoparticle engineering with other scientific disciplines
  • Write research papers and present findings at international conferences

Requirements

  • PhD in Materials Science, Chemistry, Physics, or a related field
  • Experience with plasmonic materials and their applications
  • Strong programming skills, particularly in Python and MATLAB
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills

Qualifications

  • Passionate about interdisciplinary research
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Interest in applying AI and robotics to scientific problems

Skills

  • Expertise in plasmonics and nanomaterials
  • Programming skills (Python, MATLAB)
  • Research experience in catalysis and/or neurotechnology
