About the role

The Chemistry and Nanoscience Center at NLR is seeking a Postdoctoral researcher to contribute to the study of charge generation, separation, and recombination within photoactive nanomaterials. The ideal candidate will have expertise in synthesizing, manipulating, and characterizing 2D materials and plasmonic nanostructures.

Responsibilities

  • Utilize synthesis methods such as top-down and bottom-up approaches to create 2D layers and plasmonic heterointerfaces.
  • Explore doping, functionalization, defect engineering, and plasmonic interactions to tune the optoelectronic properties of nanomaterials.
  • Employ various characterization tools like Confocal Raman/photoluminescence spectroscopy, atomic force microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, and transient absorption to probe and control photogenerated charges.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to understand and manipulate surfaces and interfaces of novel chemistries and architectures.

Requirements

  • Recent PhD graduate within the last three years.
  • Experience with or demonstrated ability to quickly learn new techniques in spectroscopy and microscopy.
  • Expertise in data analysis, experimental design, and manuscript writing.

Qualifications

  • PhD in Chemistry, Material Science, Physics, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related fields.
  • Established track record in scientific writing, presentation, and publication.

Skills

  • Proficiency in nanostructure synthesis, particularly with 2D materials or plasmonics.
  • Experience with surface functionalization, phase control, and defect engineering.
  • Knowledge of designing, making, and modifying heterostructures.
  • Ability to characterize the optoelectronic properties of semiconductors.
  • Experience with spectroscopy or microscopy of nanomaterials surfaces.

Benefits

  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance.
  • Short-term disability insurance.
  • Pension benefits.
  • 403(b) Employee Savings Plan with employer match.
  • Life and accidental death and dismemberment (AD&D) insurance.
  • Personal time off (PTO) and sick leave.
  • Paid holidays.
  • Performance-, merit-, and achievement-based awards.
  • Relocation expense reimbursement (eligibility varies).

Pay

$76,600 - $126,400 annually.

Schedule
