About the role

The Materials Physics Center (MPC) is seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher to join the “Electronic Excitations in Surfaces and Nanostructures” group. The successful candidate will work on developing innovative theoretical frameworks that bridge realistic material physics with quantum computing architectures.

Responsibilities

  • Work with Research Scientist Andrés Ayuela to advance the theoretical description of materials with emerging quantum properties.
  • Focusing on 2D materials, molecular quantum magnetism, and spintronic materials in the THz regime.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Materials Science, Physics, or a related field.
  • Strong background in theoretical condensed matter physics.
  • Experience with quantum computing and/or quantum simulation techniques.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

Qualifications

  • Proven ability to conduct independent research.
  • Track record of publications in high-quality journals.
  • Interest in interdisciplinary research combining material science and quantum computing.

Skills

  • Proficiency in computational methods such as density functional theory (DFT), ab initio calculations, and quantum chemistry.
  • Experience with quantum computing platforms and software tools.
  • Strong programming skills in Python, Fortran, or similar languages.
