Position Summary
We are seeking a postdoctoral research associate to work on problems in the intersection of inverse problems, analysis, and computational mathematics. The position is initially for one year, with the option to renew for 1-2 additional years, subject to satisfactory performance. The start date is negotiable, preferably Fall 2026.
Essential Functions
- Work on the ONR Project “Optimal Transport-based Strategies in Waves and Dynamics” led by Prof. Christina Frederick at NJIT.
- Harness and advance the power of optimal transport theory to capture the intrinsic characteristics of complex physical processes arising in a wide range of important scientific applications, e.g., ocean electromagnetics, inverse scattering, time series modeling.
- Integrate and develop optimal transport theories and computational methods for the forward and inverse modeling in these applications.
Prerequisite Qualifications
- Recent PhD in Mathematics or related field with a research background in computational mathematics, optimization, and inverse problems.
- A track record of publications and presentations in high-quality journals and conferences.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of optimal transport theory.
- Programming skills and experience with physical modeling (e.g., computational fluid dynamics, wave propagation).
- Proven ability and interest in interdisciplinary work.
Expected Compensation
$62,232 - $75,000
