We are seeking a Post-Doctoral Fellow to join the laboratory of Dr. Qiwen Dong in the Department of Microbiology, Molecular Genetics, and Immunology at the University of Kansas Medical Center. Our research focuses on identifying novel pathways used by bacteria to cause infection, with a major emphasis on how the human pathogen Clostridioides difficile establishes colonization and virulence.

About the role

This position involves interdisciplinary research using genomics, metabolomics, molecular microbiology, microscopy, and pathogenesis studies in mouse models. The successful candidate will work closely with the PI to design and execute experiments, analyze data, and contribute to publications and grant applications.

Responsibilities

  • Design and perform research related to Clostridioides difficile infection, including molecular cloning, animal models of infection, and microscopy.
  • Utilize multi-omics approaches and analyze big data.
  • Perform data analysis, prepare presentations (oral and written), and write manuscripts and other research documents.
  • Contribute to grant applications and submit fellowship applications as eligible.
  • Maintain an electronic laboratory notebook, record and interpret experimental results, and prepare publication-quality manuscripts.
  • Read and assimilate scientific literature to inform project design and interpretation.
  • Present research findings at department seminars and scientific meetings.
  • Publish results as first author in abstracts, manuscripts, and posters.
  • Attend and maintain compliance with all required university and departmental training sessions.
  • Participate in regularly scheduled research team meetings.

Requirements

  • PhD in Microbiology, Immunology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or a related field.
  • Research experience using BSL-2 organisms and mouse models.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Research experience with C. difficile or related organisms.
  • Data analysis of “omics” data.
  • Experience with animal models of infection.

Pay

The pay range for this position is $63,480.00 - $90,000.00, with a starting range estimated between the minimum and midpoint ($63,480.00 - $76,739.00). Compensation is determined by education, experience, qualifications, and funding.

Schedule

This is a full-time, regular position.
