Post Doctoral Fellow - Qiu Lab

About the Role

The Postdoctoral Fellow will work under the supervision of Dr. Jianming Qiu in the KUMC Department of Microbiology, participating in research on parvovirus infection and AAV transduction biology and gene therapy. This position offers opportunities to collaborate with outstanding clinicians, faculty, and research staff across the institution.

Postdoctoral scholars at the University of Kansas Medical Center are individuals who have received their terminal degree and pursue further training in a time-limited appointment focused on research and scholarly training for an academic or research career.

Responsibilities

• Design and prioritize research projects in collaboration with faculty mentors.
• Conduct independent research on parvovirus infection and AAV transduction biology, including gene delivery into airways (animal studies involved).
• Collaborate with lab researchers on data collection, analysis, and manuscript preparation.
• Assist in developing and preparing grant applications and manuscripts.
• Work effectively as part of the research team and mentor junior members.
• Provide guidance to graduate students under Dr. Qiu’s direction.
• Complete research projects under faculty mentorship, record and interpret results in an electronic laboratory notebook.
• Prepare publication-quality manuscripts and publish in peer-reviewed literature.
• Read literature, develop new ideas, and integrate findings into project design and interpretation.
• Present research at department seminars and scientific meetings.
• Publish results as first author in abstracts, manuscripts, and posters.
• Submit fellowship applications to support research funding and CV development.
• Attend and maintain compliance with all required University and department training sessions.
• Participate in regularly scheduled research team meetings.

Requirements

• Ph.D. or equivalent terminal degree (e.g., MD, DVM, PsyD, PharmD) in life sciences.
• Strong English skills and ability to write and communicate with a scientific audience.
• Ability to independently plan, multitask, and complete projects.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience and expertise in molecular biology and animal studies.
• Experience with peer-reviewed publications.
• Strong communication and presentation skills.

Pay

The pay range for this position is $63,480.00 – $90,000.00, with a starting range estimated between the minimum and midpoint ($63,480.00 – $76,739.00). Compensation is determined using market data, education, experience, qualifications, and funding.
