Post Doctoral Fellow - John Chambers College of Business and Economics

About the role

The Center for Gambling Research and Development and the Department of Economics in the John Chambers College of Business and Economics at West Virginia University, located in Morgantown, WV, invites applications for a Postdoctoral Fellow position starting in August 2026. The position will involve research under the supervision of Dr. Brad Humphreys, in the topics of economics, gambling, and sports betting.

Responsibilities

• Lead independent research projects
• Collaborate with faculty and doctoral students in the Chambers College with the goal of publications in reputed journals in economics or related fields like finance, gambling and public policy
• Teach one course or two courses per academic year in the Department of Economics
• Attend graduate student seminars
• Work with graduate students involved with related research
• Collaborate with scholars in the Department of Economics under the discretion and direction of Dr. Brad Humphreys

Requirements

• A PhD in economics or related fields (e.g., data science, information systems)
• Extensive coursework in statistical methods and causal inference
• Experience in database management and working with very large data sets is desirable

Qualifications

• PhD in economics or related fields (economics, data science, information systems)
• PhD candidates in the advanced stages of their dissertation will also be considered but must have earned their PhD degree before the start date of this position

Pay

Salary and benefits are appropriate for experience and qualifications.
