Essential Functions
- Examine viral pathogen-host interactions using in vitro and in vivo models.
- Elucidate the determinants of transmission and pathogenesis of viral pathogens.
- Perform techniques and practices such as nucleic acid purification, PCR, tissue culture, generation of viral stocks, and viral quantification.
Job Description
- Maintain mammalian and arthropod cell lines.
- Carry out basic virology techniques and record, interpret, and report data.
- Manage animal use/care including infections and post-infection surveillance of mice, and maintain inventory records of laboratory equipment and supplies.
- Initiate purchase orders to replenish supplies.
- Independently design and implement research techniques.
- Collect and analyze data and draw conclusions related to the research project.
- Prepare data for publication.
- Prepare publications for peer review, including background literature search and description, using citation programs like Endnote.
- Supervise technical positions/students in carrying out research experiments.
- Perform very technical and highly complex research studies.
- Supervise and maintain the operation of a research laboratory.
- Regular and prompt attendance.
- Ability to work schedule as defined and additional hours as required.
Other Duties And Responsibilities
- Must have a working knowledge of immunology and molecular biology.
- Must be able to record data in an organized fashion.
- Experience with interpreting and reporting data is essential.
- The ability to learn and apply skills in virus and animal handling is expected.
- Independent experimental design and execution is expected.
Specific Minimum Requirements
- A PhD in a public health, medical, clinical, or research laboratory.
- Experience handling dengue virus, Zika virus, C6 mosquito cells, and rodent model work is a plus.
