About the role

As one of the oldest medical schools in the country, the UC College of Medicine has a reputation for training best-in-class health care professionals and developing cutting-edge procedures and research. The Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine is recruiting for a full-time Postdoctoral Fellow to work in the lab of Wei Shi, PhD.

Responsibilities

• Under the supervision of the primary investigator, conduct research experiments on funded research projects, focusing on lung mesenchymal progenitor cells in development and congenital pulmonary airway malformation, Birt-Hogg-Dubé syndrome, and pulmonary fibrosis. The goal of this research is to discover the mechanisms underlying these diseases and identify potential therapeutic targets to prevent and treat these diseases.
• Conduct research experiments independently in studying lung alveolar formation and maintenance.
• Complete training to accurately use and develop the necessary tools to conduct research in lung physiology and pulmonary diseases. Tools include but are not limited to genetic manipulation of gene expression, cell lineage tracing, and single cell omics.
• Gather and analyze data and develop new ideas that promote translational research in treating cystic lung diseases.
• Prepare data summaries, reports, manuscripts and presentations of research results.
• Contribute to manuscript writing for publication in scientific journals and/or presentation.
• Keep informed of developments in field to maintain and enhance professional expertise.
• Train in lab administration such as equipment maintenance and ordering of supplies.
• Share knowledge of techniques to others and train and mentor junior research staff.

Requirements

• Doctoral Degree in biological sciences or related field.
