Position Overview
The selected candidate will provide a full range of clinical services (65%) and participate in campus outreach and other projects (35%). This is a 12-month position, with regular hours Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM, and occasionally early morning, evening, late evening or weekend hours.
Direct Counseling Services
- Provide intake clinical interviews and psycho-diagnostic assessments in-person and virtually.
- Provide short-term individual therapy, crisis intervention, group counseling and psycho-educational groups, clinical triage, case management, collaboration with a consulting psychiatrist, referrals to and consultation with academic and disability counselors, and referrals to and consultation with health center professionals on-campus, as well as off-campus mental health professionals and agencies.
- Respond to urgent mental health needs on campus, including collaborating with campus partners to address student crises.
Crisis Response
- Provide crisis intervention and support for students experiencing psychological emergencies.
Outreach Services
- Develop and provide outreach programs (e.g., classroom presentations; workshops), including occasional evening or weekend programs, for a metropolitan, largely commuter campus with a highly diverse student population.
- Participate in the development and implementation of assigned special outreach projects (e.g., mental health screening days; prevention projects).
Liaisonship with Campus Partner
- Serve as a point of contact between the program and campus partners, building collaborative relationships, and helping coordinate referrals and communication.
- Provide consultation, participate in meetings or committees, and support outreach efforts such as workshops or brief trainings, while ensuring all activities align with program procedures and professional standards.
Consultation
- Provide expertise to the university community regarding issues that affect the educational, developmental and psychological well-being of students.
- Provide consultation services and occasional in-service training to faculty, administrators, and student leaders on mental health and developmental issues.
Indirect Clinical Services and Supervision
- Maintain timely electronic clinical records in accordance with legal, ethical, and department standards.
- Participate in clinical staff meetings.
- Participate in committee work as needed.
- Participate in crisis team meetings.
- Participate in weekly supervision in accordance with the licensure laws and regulations of the California Board of Psychology.
- HIPPA compliant recording of direct clinical services to review with your supervisor during supervision.
Required Qualifications
- Ph.D. or Psy.D. in Counseling or Clinical Psychology from an APA-accredited program and documented completion of the degree prior to commencement of the position.
- Completion of an APA-accredited internship.
- Be in good standing with your Psychology program.
- Demonstrated experience with issues pertinent to a university student population.
- Experience with crisis assessment and intervention.
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent ability to work as a member of a collaborative, multidisciplinary team.
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize and manage a variety of clinical duties as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Specialization in an area pertinent to CSUF college students (e.g., students of color).
- Experience and interest in providing outreach services and counseling to address traditionally underserved students.
