POST Certified Security Officer - Security - Sharp Memorial Hospital - Variable Shift - Per Diem

Hours: Variable shift start and end times. 8-hour shifts under an 8/80 schedule. Weekend work as needed. No on-call requirement.

Pay

The stated pay scale reflects the range that Sharp reasonably expects to pay for this position: $30.980 – $38.730 – $43.370 per hour. Actual pay rate and pay grade will depend on years of experience, unique skills and abilities, education, alignment with similar internal candidates, marketplace factors, other position requirements, and employer business practices.

What You Will Do

• Maintain the security and safety of the hospital, its staff, patients, and visitors.
• Serve as a visible deterrent to illegal activities on hospital property.
• Provide security services in high-risk situations.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Must be a non-probationary active duty or service-retired California Police Officer, Sheriff’s Deputy, or Federal Law Enforcement Agent or have 1 year of service as a California Police Officer, Sheriff’s Deputy, or Federal Law Enforcement Agent.
• Experienced in the use of tasers and handcuffs.
• Valid California Driver’s License.
• Commercial Driver License (CDL) Class A or B – California Department of Motor Vehicles.
• California Security Guard Card – California Bureau of Security & Investigative Services.
• Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Certification or Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC) Certification.
• When driving a personal vehicle for work, must have reliable transportation and adequate personal insurance coverage.
• Clean driving record in accordance with employer DMV pull-notice program and Sharp HealthCare Driver Guidelines.

Preferred Qualifications

• 5 years of service as a California Police Officer, Sheriff’s Deputy, or Federal Law Enforcement Agent.

Responsibilities

Communications

• Proactively communicate schedule availability to leadership.
• Emergency department officers must assist patients, visitors, and staff as needed.

Incident Documentation

• Report and document all security-related incidents.

Liaison

• Coordinate with local law enforcement agencies transporting patients and prisoners to the ER, ensuring compliance with Sharp HealthCare’s documentation and procedures.

Security Rounds

• Diffuse potential violent confrontations using verbal skills and proactive presence to prevent escalation.
• Must be certified to carry and deploy a Taser as directed by Security Leadership in accordance with Sharp Policy.

Stat Calls

• Respond to stat calls in a timely manner using established safety practices.

Skills

• Ability to utilize resources in an organized manner.
• Extensive knowledge of penal codes.
• Effective interpersonal and customer relations skills.
• Demonstrated ability to use defensive devices such as tasers and handcuffs.
