About the Role

The Nuclear and Radiochemistry Group is seeking a strong candidate interested in radiation detection and measurement research. The selected candidate will work with scientists on projects related to nuclear forensics, medical isotope production, and treaty verification and monitoring. They will also have the opportunity to collaborate with colleagues in Chemistry and Physics Divisions. The group specializes in radioanalytical chemistry and radiometric measurement of low-level radionuclides, supporting a wide range of LANL missions.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct research in radiation detection and measurement.
  • Collaborate on projects involving nuclear forensics, medical isotope production, and treaty verification.
  • Work with scientists in the Nuclear and Radiochemistry Group and across Chemistry and Physics Divisions.

Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree in science or engineering completed within the last two years.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills in science or engineering.
  • Good oral, written, and presentation communication skills.
  • Experience working in a team environment.
  • Record of fostering a mutually respectful and inclusive work environment free from discrimination and harassment.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of basic principles of nuclear decay and spectroscopy.
  • Interests in nuclear nonproliferation, design of radiation detection systems, or nuclear reactor design.
  • Experience working with computers and basic programming.
  • Experience working in a laboratory setting.

Work Location

The work location for this position is onsite in Los Alamos, NM. Due to federal restrictions, citizens of the People's Republic of China (including Hong Kong and Macau), the Islamic Republic of Iran, the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (North Korea), and the Russian Federation who are not Lawful Permanent Residents ("green card" holders) are prohibited from accessing LANL facilities.

Additional Details

This position does not require a security clearance but selected candidates will be subject to drug testing and other pre-employment background checks.
