What You’ll Be Doing

The Portfolio Manager will ensure objectives related to credit underwriting and internal portfolio management are met, in addition to supporting the workflow of the Commercial Team of Relationship Managers and commercial lending associates.

How You'll Succeed

  • Portfolio Management & Credit Oversight:
    • Maintain and deepen partnerships across business functions to support client needs and business objectives, while maintaining high credit standards.
    • Address upcoming maturities and annual reviews on time; help remediate payment past dues.
    • Ensure all customer financial reporting / covenants are collected on time.
    • Support closing team to ensure collection of outstanding loan document exceptions.
    • Follow up on past due real estate taxes / insurance certificates to clear exceptions.
    • Prepare CAMP reports and quarterly trend cards / reviews.
    • Prepare FAS 114 memo / analysis.
    • Complete quarterly SOX controls and ensure accurate risk ratings at all times for covered portfolio.
    • Review borrowing base availability and approve loan advances.
    • Perform loan structuring in support of underwriting and credit approval.
    • Coordinate onboarding, deposit account opening and TM setup activities.
    • Guide deals through the credit approval process.
    • Advise on credit actions related to the existing portfolio, including structuring, waivers, and modifications.
  • Deal Execution & Guidance:
    • Provide expert guidance on deal structuring through to approval and closing.
    • Ensure all transactions align with CIBC’s risk appetite and credit policies.
    • Leverage external tools like CapitalIQ, FactSet, Moody’s Risk Analyst and Excel along with CIBC’s proprietary tools, to model financial statements, generate credit ratings, and analyze the creditworthiness of a borrower.
    • Process transactions and ensure alignment with CIBC’s risk appetite and credit policies.
    • Process and approve loan advances.
  • Client and Internal Stakeholder Engagement:
    • Work closely with analysts, relationship managers, clients, and internal partners to gather relevant information and ensure timely delivery of credit submissions.
