Job Description
The U.S. Wealth Chief Investment Office ("CIO") is responsible for the development of TD Wealth U.S. market outlook, asset allocation positioning recommendations, portfolio management of U.S. Wealth's Home Office Portfolios and investment strategy research. The primary purpose of this role is the design, development and management of multi-asset portfolios for TD Wealth U.S. investment platforms, and the development and ongoing management of a robust investment research and analytical platform that requires an assessment of asset allocation, asset classes, and individual strategies and products that provide direct inputs for TD Wealth U.S. portfolios and models.
Depth & Scope
- Supports day-to-day oversight of all TD Wealth firm discretionary portfolios and recommended investment solutions across U.S. Wealth platforms
- Sustains the implementation and trading of tactical asset allocation changes within discretionary portfolios
- Conducts asset class research and fund coverage to inform portfolio construction and strategic positioning
- Collaborates with Senior Portfolio Managers to conduct quarterly portfolio reviews, including performance measurement and attribution, to ensure portfolios are meeting stated objectives
- Delivers and supports presentations on portfolio performance, asset allocation changes, and outcomes at TD Wealth investment oversight and governance committees
- Assists investment portfolios, serving as a key point of contact for investment advisors, relationship managers, and other stakeholders
- Explains portfolio construction, performance drivers, and the rationale for tactical and strategic investment decisions
- Contributes to the development and design of investment solutions across all U.S. Wealth platforms
- Executes investment research and due diligence for mutual funds, ETFs, Separately Managed Wrap (SMAs), UMA models, and alternative investments held in U.S. Wealth portfolios, ensuring strategies align with portfolio objectives, risk profiles, and client needs including in-depth quantitative and qualitative analysis of underlying investment strategies
- Guides fund selection, affiliate managers, and mandates to investment advisors, relationship managers, and internal stakeholders
- Manages affiliate investment manager research and due diligence function for investment strategies and mandates available on U.S. Wealth platforms
- Produces performance attribution analysis and commentary for individual funds, mandates, and portfolio exposures
- Owns relationships with research vendors and application providers to continuously enhance the research function and the tools available internally to the CIO team and externally to advisors and relationship managers
- Develops, articulates and communicates TD U.S. Wealth’s investment strategy and investment outlook for internal and external audiences
- Engages in thought leadership initiatives, including market reviews, investment strategy communications, ad-hoc research, and global investment publications across all Wealth channels
- Presents investment views, strategy insights, and research findings on national conference calls and at TD Wealth conferences as required
- Carries out competitive analysis of industry, platform, and product trends to identify risks, gaps, and opportunities
- Collaborates with Wealth Products teams to identify opportunities to add bench strength from a product category, strategy, or product structure perspective
- Collaborates with Wealth Products and Practice Management to support advisor and relationship manager training and education programs focused on investment strategy, portfolio construction, and product usage
- Collaborates with Senior Portfolio Managers and internal partners to develop and launch key initiatives to drive towards business and sales goals
Education & Experience
- University degree in a related field
- Preference for CFA/MBA; CAIA is an asset
- 10+ years of progressive experience in the financial services industry
- Significant knowledge of product structures including mutual funds, Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs), Unified Managed Account models (UMAs), Separately Managed Accounts (SMAs) and alternative investments
- Significant experience in utilizing quantitative and qualitative due diligence and oversight criteria in assessing individual strategies that are slated for inclusion in the portfolios
- Strong analytical and technical skills
- Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word) is a requirement
