About the role
This position implements analysis and recommendations across the TVA project portfolio in alignment with TVA-driven guidance and deliverables regarding allocation of funds to Business Units and projects. The role assesses value criteria and risks, runs a complex model to optimize the portfolio, and establishes, maintains, and improves standard project portfolio analysis processes, performance measures, and reporting.
The candidate will advise SBU executives and managers on capital allocation, business cases, and funding levels, and communicate capital allocation activities to key stakeholders at all levels of the organization. The incumbent will develop analytical skills within the Portfolio Management team and across TVA, lead diverse teams, complete robust analysis, and improve existing capabilities and knowledge. Building communication and collaboration channels with customers and support organizations is essential.
Responsibilities
- Analyze and recommend capital allocation levels during annual business planning and monthly reallocation of project capital using a TVA-wide savings and use process.
- Develop and lead process changes as requirements and technology evolve.
- Influence business unit project portfolio and capital allocation decisions.
- Analyze and communicate value criteria and risks of a project portfolio.
- Develop funding and optimization scenarios for BU portfolios and communicate differences in value and recommended actions.
- Evaluate new projects and programs in the portfolio management system to ensure value criteria are reasonable and complete.
- Maintain current understanding of legislative, regulatory, operational, market, project, and other changes that might affect priorities, risks, and timing of projects across the portfolio.
- Assess the relative risk and priority of projects in the TVA portfolio using knowledge of available project funds, and recommend and approve project portfolio changes.
- Coordinate contractors, external consultants, and analyst teams.
- Manage the authorization, forecasting, budgeting, and performance of a portfolio of active projects with an annual budget exceeding $2 billion.
Requirements
- B.S. degree in finance, accounting, mathematics, data analytics, economics, engineering, or a scientific discipline or related field. Master’s degree or equivalent desired.
- Five or more years of work experience with portfolio analysis, financial modeling, and portfolio performance and metrics.
- Experience within the utility industry is desired.
- Project Management Institute certification (e.g., Project Management Professional or Program Management Professional) or equivalent is desired.
Skills
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work cohesively with various organizations and levels of management, including SBU executives.
- Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with TVA executives.
- Strong communication skills in verbal, writing, and presentation forums.
- Good knowledge of theories and applications in economic analysis and optimization.
- Advanced skills with enterprise systems used to manage project portfolios, including Copperleaf C55 (desired).
- Strong data visualization skills (desired).
- Process improvement skills and ability.
- May be required to obtain and maintain a security clearance based on position/access requirements and essential job functions.
