Population Science/Cancer Control Investigator

About the Role

The Division of Pediatric Hematology‑Oncology in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Utah School of Medicine, in partnership with the Huntsman Cancer Institute (HCI) and Primary Children’s Hospital (PCH), has several immediate openings for a Population Science/Cancer Control Investigator in Pediatric Cancer. The position is a tenure‑track appointment in the Department of Pediatrics with a concurrent investigator appointment at HCI. The role focuses on collaborative population‑science and cancer‑control research, leveraging HCI’s depth in population sciences and the extensive resources of the University of Utah health system.

Responsibilities

• Design and conduct population‑science and cancer‑control investigations related to pediatric cancer.
• Collaborate with clinicians on practice‑changing research in environmental health and exposure, digital health, care‑delivery models, financial outcomes, and telehealth for rural and frontier populations.
• Utilize shared resources such as the Utah Population Database (over 16 million linked records) and the Utah Cancer Registry (a premier SEER site) for epidemiologic and outcomes studies.
• Engage with the ORIEN network and multidisciplinary teams for basic, translational, epidemiologic, and biostatistical research.
• For M.D. and D.O. candidates, participate in a multidisciplinary pediatric oncology clinic and/or manage inpatient pediatric oncology care.

Qualifications

• Ph.D., M.D., or D.O. degree with focused training in population sciences and/or cancer control related to pediatric cancer.
• Assistant Professor candidates should have an established record of innovative research and peer‑reviewed publications of impact in areas such as cell therapy, cancer genetics, epigenetics, tumor modeling, or experimental therapeutics.
• Candidates with an extensive track record and a history of extramural funding may be considered for Associate Professor or Professor rank.
• Board Eligible/Board Certified in Pediatric Hematology‑Oncology for those who wish to provide patient care.
