About the Role

The MRI Technologist III is an advanced-level technologist responsible for performing highly specialized Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) procedures that produce high-quality diagnostic images. This position may serve as an MRI Float Technologist, Cardiac MRI Technologist, or Breast Biopsy MRI Technologist. The role requires expert-level MRI technical skills, strong clinical judgment, and the ability to work independently across a wide range of complex imaging scenarios and patient populations.

The MRI Technologist III supports radiologists during specialized procedures, assists with workflow coordination, performs equipment quality control, ensures adherence to MRI safety protocols, and may guide or support less experienced technologists. The role plays a key part in ensuring exemplary patient care, operational efficiency, and clinical quality across assigned locations.

Responsibilities

  • Executes advanced procedures such as cardiac MRI, breast MRI/biopsy, or specialty protocols requiring expert technical knowledge.
  • Ensures exam orders accurately match patient needs, documents all relevant symptoms, and collaborates with radiologists on appropriate protocols.
  • Clearly explains complex procedures, reduces patient anxiety, and ensures safety and comfort throughout imaging.
  • Performs in-depth screening for implants, devices, and contraindications; monitors SAR levels; and mitigates safety risks.
  • Positions patients using advanced techniques and assists radiologists during MRI-guided procedures, including breast biopsies.
  • Selects, modifies, and optimizes MRI sequences, especially when floating between locations with varying equipment.
  • Reviews images for technical precision, ensures diagnostic completeness, and repeats sequences when required.
  • Establishes IV access, administers contrast agents, monitors for adverse reactions, and documents per protocol.
  • Performs routine QC, identifies equipment malfunctions, troubleshoots issues, and escalates concerns to leadership as needed.
  • Documents accurately in the EMR/RIS/PACS: patient assessments, imaging details, contrast usage, dose indices, and procedural notes.
  • Assists in training staff, supports operational efficiency, maintains supply levels, collaborates with leadership, and performs additional duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Technical Program in Radiologic Technology or Magnetic Resonance Program.
  • License/Registration issued by Florida or Compact State Radiology Technologist Certification.
  • BLS certification.
  • ARRT MRI Registered (American Registry of Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologist).
  • 4 years of experience in MRI technology.
  • Knowledge of customer service concepts and clinic policies including safety, privacy, and HIPAA regulations.

Skills

  • Comprehensive understanding of specialized MRI procedures such as cardiac imaging, breast imaging/biopsy, and multi-facility workflow operations.
  • Ability to anticipate imaging needs, modify protocols, and ensure accurate visualization of complex anatomical regions.
  • Deep knowledge of MRI safety zones, emergency procedures, SAR regulation, and ability to identify and respond to high-risk safety concerns.
  • Ability to operate, troubleshoot, and adapt to multiple MRI platforms and coils across various locations.
  • Proficiency in assisting radiologists during MRI-guided breast biopsies or performing cardiac MRI sequences requiring precision timing and advanced sequencing.
  • Ability to coordinate workflow, mentor junior technologists, communicate with multidisciplinary teams, and maintain smooth operations across sites.

Schedule

  • Per Diem/Pool (On Site).
  • Shift Hours: 6:30am to 12:30pm, 6am to 2pm, 6am to 7pm, 1pm-9pm, or 11am-7pm (varies).
