About the Role

The Professional Performance Program in the School of Professional Studies at the University of Kansas Edwards Campus seeks qualified scholars and professionals with experience in entrepreneurship, content creation, or professional performance for part-time lecturer positions. Lecturers teach in-person, online, or hybrid courses, or develop undergraduate-level courses, and report to the Program Director for Professional Performance. The program prepares students with workforce-ready skills in entrepreneurship, branding, media, finance, and communication to transform their talents into sustainable careers.

This position is instructional only, with no research or service obligations, and is governed by a collective bargaining agreement. Appointments are single-term, renewable based on performance, funding, and enrollment, not to exceed two continuous semesters. Due to state employment laws, the university may be unable to hire fully remote workers outside of Kansas, specifically excluding candidates from California, Delaware, Idaho, and Minnesota. The successful candidate must have appropriate U.S. work authorization and pass a background check.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, prepare, and deliver online (synchronous/asynchronous), in-person, or hybrid course instruction based on an approved syllabus.
  • Provide timely, meaningful feedback on assignments verbally and in writing via the learning management system (LMS).
  • Maintain office hours and respond promptly to student questions via email.
  • Engage with students respectfully, fostering an inclusive learning environment.
  • Update course materials (PowerPoints, assignment instructions, discussion boards) in Canvas to support student learning.
  • Maintain well-organized, accurate, and navigable content in Canvas.
  • Attend monthly virtual faculty meetings and participate in at least one teaching professional development activity per semester.
  • Collaborate with colleagues, stay current in the field, and adhere to university policies.

Requirements

  • Master of Business Administration (or business-related discipline), Master of Science (communications or related field), Master of Arts (communications or related field), Master of Education (Sport Management, Leadership, or related field), or Master of Fine Arts from a regionally accredited institution.
  • At least 3 years of professional performance-related experience (e.g., entrepreneurship, content creation).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior success in teaching (in-person or online), demonstrated by course evaluations or supervisor ratings.
  • Experience with learning management systems (e.g., Canvas).
  • Strong written communication skills, as evidenced in application materials.
  • Business ownership or content creation experience.
  • Involvement in relevant industry associations or communities.

Pay

$6,500 per 3-credit-hour course per semester.
