Job Summary

PeaceHealth is seeking a skilled and compassionate Registered Polysomnographic Technologist to join our neurology department as a day sleep tech specializing in Home Sleep Testing (HST). This position focuses exclusively on HST services conducted within our clinic. The ideal candidate will provide exceptional patient care while managing the full lifecycle of home sleep studies, including setup, education, scoring and follow-up coordination.

Essential Functions

  • Collects, analyzes and integrates patient information in order to identify and meet the patient specific needs (Physical/mental limitations, current emotional/physiological status regarding the testing procedure, pertinent medical/social history), and to determine final testing parameters/procedures in conjunction with the ordering physician or clinical director and laboratory protocols.
  • Respond to study participant’s procedural-related inquires by providing appropriate information to testing procedure.
  • Document routine observations, including sleep stages and clinical events, changes in procedure, and other significant events in order to facilitate scoring and interpretation of polysomnographic results.
  • Administers bedtime, morning, and quality assurance questionnaires to aid in patient evaluation.
  • Performs equipment set up, calibration, and patient hookup in a timely and efficient manner and according to department procedures.
  • Oversee and perform difficult and unusual procedures and therapeutic interventions. Recognize sleep/wake stages and events by applying professionally accepted guidelines.
  • Demonstrate the ability to analyze complex situations and apply policy.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Associate Degree Preferred: Health Sciences
  • Required: High level of sleep disorder work experience
  • Required: Within 1 Year Polysomnographic Technologist
  • Required: Multi and Required: Upon Hire Basic Life Support Skills
  • Experience in clinical interaction with patients, co-workers and medical staff which demonstrates the following skills:
    • Ability to maintain composure with multiple workloads and demands due to the patient’s condition and difficult testing environment.
    • Extremely vigilant and detail-orientated.
    • Ability to work alone and independently but able to maintain department protocols.
    • Department / Location Specific Notes: PHMG Vancouver: RPSGT required upon hire. This role is strictly focused on Home Sleep Testing within the Neurology Department. We do not operate an in-lab sleep testing facility. This role will oversee daily home sleep testing operation under the direction of the Medical Director.

Working Conditions

  • Patient handling no greater than 35 lbs. without the use of assistive equipment and/or devices (NIOSH).
  • Fine motor skills to be able to grasp and control medical equipment and perform precise procedures.
  • Able to move around area with occasional sitting.
  • Frequent reaching/ bending/ squatting/ kneeling/ grasping.
  • Lift/Carry: Frequently up to 15 lbs. Occasionally up to 20 lbs.
  • Push/Pull: Frequently up to 20 lbs. force. Occasionally up to 30 lbs. force.
  • Exposure to biohazard, body fluids and airborne particles.
  • Exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals.
  • Time spent on site in medical/hospital setting.
  • Vision and hearing required within normal limits (glasses, contacts, hearing aids permitted).
  • Able to communicate and exchange accurate information.
