About the role

As a Polysomnographic Technologist on our Sleep Lab team, you'll work alongside a team committed to excellence in sleep medicine and patient care. In this role, you'll independently perform diagnostic sleep monitoring studies, obtain artifact-free sleep tracings, and analyze results to support clinicians in diagnosing and treating patients. You'll ensure quality recordings by troubleshooting technical issues, reviewing patient medical histories, and maintaining compliance with departmental policies and regulatory standards. This position may include opportunities to assist with training, scheduling support, and leading educational presentations for the team.

Responsibilities

• Obtains artifact-free sleep tracings that accurately reflect physiologic processes occurring during sleep of patients utilizing the latest technology.
• Analyzes all types of sleep records of patients, identifies and documents sleep stages, and quantifies physiologic processes during data acquisition.
• Summarizes information as outlined by departmental policies and procedures.
• Ensures an accurate and readable recording using deductive reasoning to troubleshoot minor problems and make adjustments as needed during the testing process.
• Collects and/or reviews pertinent medical, historical, and medication information to perform the appropriate study prescribed by the physician.
• Assists with the development of department policies, procedures, and processes to facilitate testing and maintain quality for optimal patient results.
• Assists leadership with operations, scheduling, orientation, and/or training of new technical staff.
• May conduct or lead educational in-services and case study presentations.
• Ensures quality assurance standards as outlined by departmental policies and procedures in accordance with regulatory agencies.
• Independently performs prescribed diagnostic sleep monitoring, which may include home sleep tests, and acts as a resource to the department.

Requirements

• High school diploma/GED or equivalent working knowledge.
• Registry by the Board of Polysomnographic Technologists or proof of having passed the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT).
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
• Clinical knowledge typically achieved with 3 years of experience in all aspects of sleep disorders testing.
• Proficiency in the use and theory of all equipment related to sleep testing.
• Thorough knowledge of the sleep/wake cycle and its pathologies, EEG theory appropriate to sleep monitoring, and cardiopulmonary physiology during sleep.
• Demonstrated critical thinking skills, problem-solving abilities, and effective communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Additional related education and/or experience.

Schedule

3 days per week, 12-hour shifts from 7 PM to 7 AM on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.
