Polysomnographic Technician
Job Description
As part of the Sleep Center team, the Polysomnographic Technician gathers and analyzes patient information by reviewing physician orders for specific tests. Greets patients and works with them on completing patient questionnaires. Explains pre-testing, testing, and post-testing procedures to patients. Prepares the room and equipment for use by collaborating on the equipment required for testing and verifying its proper functions. Adjusts equipment as necessary. Applies electrodes and sensors to patients according to AASM guidelines. Performs appropriate physiological monitoring and adjusts as necessary. Performs CPAP mask fitting. Conducts sleep studies and monitors patient function throughout the study. Compiles and documents routine observations including sleep stages, clinical events, or any changes in events during the study. Initiates proper therapeutic interventions such as CPAP, Bi-PAP, or oxygen administration. Transfers sleep studies to the server. Processes billing charges for patient studies in the automated system.
Physical and Mental Requirements/Conditions
The employee needs to have the physical and mental abilities to perform the duties of the position listed above using the WE CARE behaviors. It is anticipated that the employee will have contact with potentially hazardous chemicals and blood, bodily fluids, or other potentially infectious materials while performing job duties.
Qualifications
- Education: Required: Successful completion of a nationally recognized accredited Polysomnographer program of no less than one year duration, associated with a state licensed and/or a nationally accredited educational facility.
- Experience: Required: Basic computer skills.
- Preferred: Associates of Science degree in Respiratory Care or clinical training course from an American Society of Electroencephalogram Technicians (EEG) program with the polysomnography option.
Licenses, Registrations, Certifications
- Registry-eligible upon hire. Must become registered with the BRPT or equivalent credential within one year of hire.
- For non-registered technicians enrolled in CAAHEP or CoARC program, must become registered with the BRPT or equivalent credential within one year of program completion.

Reporting Relationships
Reports to the Sleep Center Manager. Not responsible for supervising the work of others.
Pay Range
$28.00 - $37.68
