About the role

Under the mentorship of a registered polysomnographic technologist, the polysomnographic tech student provides comprehensive evaluation and treatment of sleep disorders and performs diagnostic sleep testing, including but not limited to order interpretation, medication administration, patient hook-up and monitoring, BLS responsibility, continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) initiation and titration, oxygen administration and other related duties.

Qualifications

Required

  • High School Diploma or equivalent

Preferred

  • Associate's Degree
  • Currently enrolled in or have completed the A-STEP or STAR designated online Self Study Modules or in preparation for certification exam OR completed ASETEP didactic education program OR in a formal polysomnography program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC) program with the polysomnography option
  • Familiar with the field of sleep medicine with progressive completion of an A-STEP or with CAAHEP program
  • CRT-Basic Life Support (BLS) - AHA American Heart Association (90 Days required) or CRT-Basic Life Support (BLS) - ARC American Red Cross (90 Days required)
  • CRT-Polysomnographic Technologist - BRPT Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists (1 Year required) or CRT-Respiratory Therapist Certification - NBRC National Board for Respiratory Care (1 Year required)
