Polysom Technician

About the role

The Polysom Technician position at CHI Health Mercy Council Bluffs involves performing diagnostic sleep procedures per physician orders and established protocols. This includes conducting and evaluating polysomnograms for patients, setting up the lab, preparing patients, scoring sleep staging, assisting with data tabulation, and monitoring/adjusting equipment.

Responsibilities

• Provides for the assessment and evaluation of the appropriateness and effectiveness of diagnostic testing based on patients’ age, cognitive and physical abilities, and/or developmental needs.
• Initiates and monitors overnight testing procedures in accordance with American Academy of Sleep Medicine and within the guidelines of all regulating/governing bodies.
• Communicates a professional attitude with patients, visitors and other hospital personnel. Practices strict ethical enforcement of protected medical and employee confidentiality.
• Operates in full compliance with organization’s safety program. Responds to all emergency preparedness situations as appropriate. Utilizes standard precaution and assures unit’s equipment is ready for safe operation.
• Assumes responsibility for personal and professional growth through participation in department meetings, in-service programs and continuing education programs. Fulfills yearly education requirements as stated by policy.
• Participates in clinical/didactic education of Respiratory Therapy/Sleep Technology students.

Requirements

• Registered Polysomnographic Technologist, within 6 months
• Basic Life Support - CPR, upon hire
• RRT's can be trained if interested in polysomnography, and SDS or RPSGT certifications also qualify

• Maintain skills through education
• Participate in quality assurance under Sleep Lab Manager supervision

Pay

The posted compensation range is $23.11 - $34.38 /hour.
